Forgotten Realms

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) has a campaign setting called The Forgotten Realms.
It is commonly shortened to "The Realms".
It is one of the most popular D&D settings, largely due to the success of novels by authors such as R. A. Salvatore and numerous computer role-playing games, including Pool of Radiance (1988), Baldur's Gate (1998), Icewind Dale (2000) and Neverwinter Nights (2002).
This is a fantasy world that supposedly exists somewhere beyond the "real" world. It is described as a place with strange lands, powerful deities, dangerous creatures. It is a place of magic and supernatural phenomena.
The idea is that some time long ago, the Earth and the world of the Forgotten Realms were more closely connected.
However, as time went by, those on earth pretty much forgot about the existence of that other world. That's why it's called the "Forgotten Realms".
